The Monster Energy White Style presented by Kona 2 The Monster Energy White Style presented by Kona 2011 is coming closer
With almost no time to spare, Leogang can boast a new title sponsor and is excited to have joined forces with Monster Energy for the snow event. Just in time for Christmas, POC, Tony Hawk Shred (Activision) and One Big Park also confirmed their support in addition to the already committed sponsors. Further confirmations also came from the riders, which means the riders’ list is almost final! The international participants are already looking forward to the evening of January 28th, when they swap their usual dirt jumps for gigantic obstacles made of snow. Just as he did for the last White Style, Grant “Chopper” Fielder is designing a course without comparison anywhere in the world.

Most people don’t know this, but I’m Darren’s stunt double. Whenever he’s nervous about pulling a move on his bike, he gives me a call. I roll in, put his helmet on and throw down some of the most progressive moves in the business. Okay, that’s bullshit, but that doesn’t change the fact I’m one of his biggest fans. It’s not often a younger sibling gets you hooked on something, but Darren got me hooked on riding a few years back.

We wanted to put a segment together that captures what it's like to hang with Darren for a weekend at his house on Vancouver Island.

Miller Time Genuinely Daft: Q&A with the Neigh Miller Time Genuinely Daft: Q&A with the Neighbourhood Homies
This world cup season was a perfect example of how close the competition is becoming. Athletes are working harder in the off season and we are seeing the support at races get better and better. But from the beginning it wouldn’t have been possible for the Sam Hills and Greg Minnaars alike to achieve such greatness without a base network of support. Like your parents for driving those shuttles or your friends for pushing your riding and keeping it fun. It could be many people or a few, but there’s guaranteed to be at least one.

Anyways, my point is in order to continue to grow and progress as athletes those in our everyday lives play an increasingly large role. When we put out a new promo video or get on the podium we are representing ourselves and the companies that support us and give us the tools we need to succeed. But what about those that don’t get any recognition, but play an equally large role in our lives?

South West Utah - Your next road trip? South West Utah - Your next road trip?
We packed our bags as per Mitch Chubey's hockey bag method (goalie bags work best), flew into Las Vegas, rented a Mazda 6 and drove the 123miles(2 hours) to St. George - the gateway to Red Rock Country. A warning: although there are downhills in this area (this area is where the Red Bull Rampage is held) we opted to bring bikes which can pedal. Reason one is that we wanted to be self-contained and could not always rely on getting shuttles. Reason two is that we don't mind pedaling for good trails and, in our opinion, pedallng gives you more flexibility and the ability to get to the best trails in the surrounding area.

The following is a suggestion for your next road trip!

Featured Riders: Brett Tippie and Dylan Sherrard

What can you say about Brett Tippie? Besides being inducted into the MTB Hall of Fame, one of the original “Fro” riders and an all around good dude that can still shred on his bike. I’ve never rode with Tippie in his native town of Kamloops, but I’m stoked we got some shots of him in his element. He’s still shredding and there’s never a short in entertainment when Tippie’s around. We returned to where some of the first big lines were documented back in the day and had some fun…cool to see where it all started. To complement the seggy we mixed in one of the current young shredders, Dylan Sherrard, to get some new school air time.

Kamloops is where free riding started with Tippie, Simmons, Schley and their crew and it still breeds some of the best talent in the business. Why? Cause the riding in Kamloops is f’n awesome, there, that’s why!

The Camp Of Champions has a sweet blend of skiing, snowboarding and mountain biking. Basically, three of the best sports around. For this seggy, I wanted to showcase big bikes. Guys that are fun to ride big bikes with are Gareth Dyer and Mike Hopkins. Mike's riding speaks for itself and he gets it done in two sports…pretty cool. Gareth has been out of the scene for a while, but came back this year and is killing it! I had fun coaching with him this past summer and I can tell you he hasn’t lost a step.

This seggy is a little taste of what the campers are in for in 2011.

You know that saying about the iceberg... something about the part you see being way smaller than the part you don't. How does that saying go? Anyway, that saying is a lot like making movies. The part the audiences sees is just this tiny chunk poking out of the ocean. Meanwhile, underneath there's this massive chunk that you don't see. Matt Hunter's gap to wall ride in Follow Me is a good example of this. Everyone who has seen the film loves that shot. But it's just the tip of the iceberg.

You've seen it before. Yet another POV video... It is so easy to be lazy and just throw them together, I admit guilt, but it can be so easy to put together creative video using some different perspectives. GoPro's POV cameras have what are generally acknowledged to have the best mounts in its class. The popularity of the GoPro POV cameras have resulted in interesting mounting ideas using not just the GoPro mounts, but many refined and not-so-refined garage-engineered third party mounts.

Part 1 of this two part series will explore some mounting options for the GoPro with an emphasis on the chest mount and hopefully give you some ideas on how to shoot creative video. Part 2 will discuss more esoteric mount options.

Bikes are fun and kids should be able to ride them!

Well fellow cycling maniacs 'tis the season to be merry. As we all know, nothing can make a cycling nut happier during the festive season than a new ride! No one knows this better than the boys at Pinkbike. A few years back we participated in an event they held annually called “Share the Ride”. This event gives bikes to kids who do not have the means. To me the love affair with bikes begins when we get our first wheeled contraption. Be it a big-wheel, a trike or a bmx. We just grow up feeling the wind on our face and fall in love. Nothing brings a tear to my eye faster than a child never feeling that freedom. The Pinkbike lads did a beautiful thing when they gave away bikes to kids in need. We had a great time participating in Calgary.

We had it all set up in a school gymnasium and got to see a hundred or so kids get new bikes for Christmas. It couldn’t have been any better.

Mountains shrowded in old-growth forest play home to a supernatural meld of dirt and granite, where a unique tribe of trail builder creates otherworldly ways through these magical woods.

Yes, there are freaks, even wizards, but there's also a resident order entrusted to mountain cycling's deepest roots.

Gravitate - a Scottish DH MTB film Gravitate - a Scottish DH MTB film
Gravitate is a Scottish downhill mountain biking film showing the diversity of people who race.

I have been filming mountain bike races in Scotland for a few years now as a hobby, but about a year ago I naively decided that making a film in my spare time would be a good idea. I wanted to produce a film that demonstrated the diversity of people who race downhill mountain bikes by showing a cross-section of the racers in the Scottish Downhill Association race series. The film is aimed at the mountain film festival market to appeal to people outside of the sport (doesn’t mean it shouldn’t appeal to those already in the sport!) to help encourage them into the sport by demonstrating that there is a real mix of age groups and ability levels and it is not purely a sport for the world cup elite and guys who can throw 360s off 80 foot drops.
