QUICK FACTS Eliot Jackson has had a crash during his qualifying run. Brendan Fairclough has broken his chain during his qualifying run. Missy Giove will be racing her qualifying run at the end of the men's field due to a course hold during her initial run. Missy crosses the finish line with a fist pump and a big ol' grin. 17th place today after blowing off course.
Just how I remember her! What a legend of the sport, can't condone the drug stuff, but it doesn't detract from her performances and personality! Great to see her still up there with barely riding in years, that's raw talent
Apparently Zink and some other folks got together to get her a bike and gear for the weekend. Would be awesome to see her crack the top 10 first time out in years.
how is PB not making a bigger deal out of that run?? no spotlight? warner said that was "one" of the best race runs he has ever seen. only thing I have ever seen comparable is danny harts run. where is the gwin love story? geeeeeeeeeeeeeez. Q-Q
I agree, I think she should continue to truly destroy these other ladies to the point others pick up the pace and put in the extra effort "it appears" she has the last 5-6 seasons on her riding and technical ability. I'm sure all the ladies train in the off-season and are all fit but after watching these races Rach seems to have bike control and confidence far beyond much of the ladies field (they may argue, but I see what I see). Just look at the times! And that's not in a good "rob warner" way. If the others want to win, they can't rely on Rachel to fall each race to pick up some points. Top 10 ladies and they're +20 seconds off....
Loic Bruni has been so close all year. So as much as it pains me to root for a Frenchman I'd love to see him win one. Just not this one cause you know...'murica.
scribd is broken at work for me... how large is women's field? I know it's smaller on the NA rounds since MTB companies don't give girls money, & a bunch of them can't make it over here...
Actually really impressed. She said she's only ridden a bike 16 times in the last decade... 8th at the first split before going off course is pretty wild.
This won't be popular, but I have no love for Missy Giove. There ain't too much professional about the way she acts, and the fact that people put her weed running, weed smoking actions on some type of pedestal is pretty lame in my opinion, she is a grown woman acting like an angst-filled teenager. Nothing cool about that really. Also, @Jackquinn she is on a YT, those things are ridiculous for the money.
Cos yeah ragging a DH bike down a hill as fast as you dare is all about being professional. Get the stick outta your arse you boring git.
Of course kids put her weed smoking on a pedestal. Kids always look up to adults who say "f*ck your rules, I'm gonna do what I wanna do."
Certain kids also get all excited when they hear about weed cos they think it's cool and spend most of their lives being told it's taboo and naughty. Which is generally the best way to make a kid really really want something. Perhaps it isn't great that she is seen as a role model and also a weed smoker, but whenever I have heard her talk about it, it has always been the interviewer who brought it up, not her.
Did you hear her Vital interview with Bryceland the other day? She's an absolute melter. And yea, at WC level it obviously is about being professional, you arse-tastic git.
Bloody hell, whats happened to mtb? cheer up for gods sake!
Tahnee Seagrave got 3rd at 10 seconds back. Suppose thats not impressive either?
Being "professional" does nothing good for you, other than making other people look at you differently. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think WC DH is mostly about being good at riding a bike down a hill at speeds most people would think are crazy. "Crazy" and "Professional" is not a very common mixture.
So its weird calling them pro's cos Athertons so bloody good. Hell, second place was 4 seconds back in the mens race. Guess they aren't really pros either. Basically what you are saying is, "if you aren't the best on the face of the planet, you're shit"
I think you lack critical thinking skills. It's weird calling them pros when the talent pool is so shallow. Competition is very low. 'Qualifying' requires just showing up basically. And none of them make a real salary. All of those components aggregated together make it difficult to call them pros, yes.
An no, I'm slow as sh*t compared to pros. But then again I have a real job where I make lots of money and a future ahead of me. So that provides me some consolation at least.
I think you lack the necessary information to discern what level my critical thinking skills are at.
The fact that they are required by contract to ride bikes, in return for some form of reimbursment, makes them professional bike riders. Commonly shortened to pro's.
So they are pro's, and they are also shit hot at riding bikes. Thats why they get paid to ride and you and I don't.
Yes the womens field is smaller than the mens. And yes Atherton is currently blowing the rest of them out of the water. But the 20ish women who raced Windham are still the 20 best female downhillers on the planet. Your derision of their incredible talent suggests to me that perhaps you aren't as satisfied by your "lots of money and a future" as you had expected.
Chin up mate. Try being really nice to everyone you meet. Much more of a sense of well being and happiness from that than from any amount of money.
a "real" job compared to these athletes? that's insulting and judgmental af to say. it's all real. they are all fairly young. maybe some still in school or have other skills and interest in other pursuits after they have finished their mtb careers.
funny how chains start breaking regularly now that we're at 11 speed....clutch derailleurs increasing momentary force placed on chain? those are my best conspiracy theory on this one.
Last week in MSA when a field was done it indicated waiting for next group to go and results of previous were posted below the feed. There are no results for Jr's hence it is broken.
Its an exciting race tomorrow! Gee-man and Ratboy are next to each other.. We might hear Rob say "LOOOOOOOOOKKK ATTTTTTT THAAAAAAAAT PUUUUUUUUUNNNCCCHHHHHHHH!!!!
Not only that, but Gee is in the middle of a Syndicate sandwich. How's That for Not A Trade Team! :-) Hope the Syndicate team puts down a blazing performance.
Remember when everyone thought he would be the new front runner on the Scott team? Now Brendan is rocking the 10 plate and Neko with 39. Shame though, hoped they would both be kicking ass.
might catch some hate on this but it seems like the jump to scott has been hard for brendan and niko. I remember brendan being more competitive with specialized then it seemed like he kinda fell back for a while once he went to scott. maybe just team differences or maybe the bike took some getting used to. I'm stoked to see brendan back on his game tho hopfully niko will get back on pace soon too
@nismo325 brendan was at his absolute worst when he left specialized, so was sam hill. Now theyre both consistently in the top 10 hunt. Lets not forget about gwins first year on specialized.
Why isnt Bubba Warren racing all wc's? Thought he was one of the next big riders from the US. Also, looking like Charlie Harrison has a bright future ahead.
*POUNDS FIST* and I put the Rat as my pick to win in the vital contest!! Unless Gwin wrecks hes got a great shot!! This is what I get for capitulating with the Redcoats!
If I were a highly competitive woman I would probably find my time on the men's rankings and see all the names in front. Heck with the women's field...those are the people I'd actually be racing against. Or at the very least, racing the clock...the clock always has a better time.

Shiiiit, I really hope Missy is alright.
Hope the Syndicate team puts down a blazing performance.

Oh, And , Really? Not a single American woman trying to qualify besides Missy?? Wha?? Crankworx....dam schedule,,!
