Unno is back racing downhill World Cups as it launches the Primal Unno Project with Angel Suárez, Ike Klaassen and Team Manager Niko Velasco.

After being revealed on this year's UCI team list we finally have the official word from Unno that they are returning to World Cup racing in 2023. We now have the answer as to what bike the team will be riding as the press release reveals Unno is working on a fresh prototype downhill bike.

The Ever is the new prototype downhill bike from Unno, with engineers at the brand working on this project for the past year. The bike will be initially set up as a mullet and has 125 different geometry possibilities for the team to test that can change the head angle, reach and wheelbase. Unno says that while initially the bike will use a smaller rear wheel there is a likely possibility of a 29" rear triangle being developed. Although the team will be racing the bike this year Unno says that there are no short-term plans of selling the new bike to the public.

bigquotesI never rode a bike so balanced. It’s a super agile rig and has the perfect balance between stability and handling, with a lot of ground sensitivity and a composed stiffness.

It’s super progressive at the beginning of the travel, but once you’re between sag points it gets firmer so it’s easy to carry a lot of speed with it. The feeling is very similar to the Burn, a bike that I adored since the first pedal stroke

Alongside Unno the team also features Primal as a title sponsor, the team press release says this is a yet-to-be-launched components/accessories brand. The team will also be supported in 2023 by Alpinestars, Enve, TRP, Schwalbe, Fizik, Fox, Crankbrothers, Tannus, Ochain and Ridewrap.

Finally, the team has also revealed plans to create a documentary to showcase the project and development of the new bike.

I thought so too at first. Then I thought it was a huge down tube protector. Only until your post did I see it's his leg.

Who is your God that you are thanking?! You know they have a bad to the bone e-bike as well right? Rob Roskopp raved about it. You E haters kill me.

All you have to do is mention God in a quip and angry atheists will appear...

Those downtubes are getting squarer and squarer and bigger and bigger ... go figure!

@Jacquers: That is a very good point. The heart is powered by electricity, so I am basically a carbon-based Ebiker no matter what I ride. I might have to turn off the Ebike filter.......

@MCBuckeystarbreaker: yeah. I thought the same at first. But there is a light in the darkness after all!

@danielfloyd: I can't tell if you are joking or not. The number one rule in atheist club is the G is lower case. Since he used an upper case G I would have to conclude his response had nothing to do with the word god.

 @MCBuckeystarbreaker:
@Sscottt:
There is a personal reason I put the capital G on God, but after all it’s just a phrase… it’s likely much more my opinion that I put “on God” than his opinion

"Unno says that there are no short-term plans of selling the new bike to the public"

Anyone know the rules around racing prototypes? From what I understand you have to sell the product within one year but maybe this doesn't apply if you only race it for one season before launching a new prototype?
  • 9 0
That was always just a rumor. They don't have to sell anything within a year
  • 5 0
Yeah I was wondering about that. Specialized has the proto that Loic and Finn are running too. Not quite sure exactly how the rule works
  • 10 0
In DH there is no such rule that you have to sell anything at all, They can race whatever they want. AFAIK the rule people always site is not applicable to MTB.
  • 5 1
that is not the case , a clear example is Intense with their prototype for years now. also Neko Mullaly with his own frame. it is not like in rally when they need to do their street version of the racer car to be legal to race.
  • 7 0
Another example was Honda that never planned to sell any bikes
  • 1 0
 Intense only race proto’s

Bike appears to be built like the Pole bikes are.
Made from two halves then glued/bolted together, you can see the threaded bosses for the clamping screws on the headtube and downtube. Neat idea but certainly not cheap or very modular when it comes to a prototype.
  • 4 0
I think the bolts on the headtube are for head angle adjustments… easy swapping of cups. Not sure about the ones on the down tube but there doesn’t seem to be a seam of any sort that would indicate two halves?
  • 1 0
Unno is not known for cheap.
  • 1 0
@bkchef2000: I think @Aem221 is right tho - there appear to be seam-lines down the middle of the underside of the top and down tubes, and those bumps on the down tube are likely post/pin machined alignment connections (obviously they’re not for cables, so why else would they be there?) and there would be no purpose to cast those from carbon (and no reason to hide their insanely gorgeous carbon layups under paint). The inside of the shock tunnel also appears to have some thin walls/rib sections which says aluminum to me.
  • 2 0
… same detail with the seat post clamp
  • 1 0
… and top of down tube near the head tube. I do bet that the head tube bolts are for angle adjusting cups too.
  • 1 0
@Tarka: as my wife would tell you, I’m often wrong… never thought I’d see the day where there would be a carbon bike made of two larger halves bolted together! Must have to do with the 120+ different Geo configurations
  • 6 1
""I never rode a bike so balanced". Glad one of the 125 geometries worked out for him. Would've been awkward if he'd needed one more.
  • 2 0
Haha same thought. Instead of designing the correct geo, just allow any geo combination possible

Lol, somewhere Colin Chapman is rolling in his grave.

@TTASS: Unno to the racers: "Here, YOU design the bike"

new ENVE prototype "à la ZIPP"?
  • 2 0
A lot of the Commencal instagram stories have been talking about the prototyping process with ENVE. Lets see if UNNO gets a say.... Hope so.
  • 1 0
It looks similar to a CB synthesis rim
profile. Which IIRC was designed by one of the enve engineerings, as well as bouwmeester wheels (the original single wall carbon rim I believe?). Would make sense if enve has started to experiment with a lower profile design.
