6 months OFF the bike due to a knee injury and surgery.
Today was my first day back on the bike and to celebrate it Commencal made me a little surprise, they wanted me to ride a bike I've never ridden before... That bike was the FCB, basically, a city bike!!
They said that, because I am not 100% ready to ride yet, I should not take too much risks and get too carried away so this bike will keep me out of trouble!
Well, you are probably gonna be surprised Commencal... and you too guys hahahaha !!
Looks like tires were swapped out, in case anyone attempts to duplicate this reverse urban freeride. Still, Hart's testicles will need to make additional room.
I just love how Commençal tries to make him reasonnable...
Commençal : we are going to give him a city bike, so he will start his biking rehab on mellow roads to bring back his confidence on 2 wheels, until he can ride a proper mountain bike
Yoann : Are you kidding me ? Is this a joke ? F*ck yeah, I'm going to ride it on a double black !
As I got surgery on both my knees, I was just thinking "Please don't slide and fall on that weak knee.."
@rrolly: For sure. I rocked the Scott AT 2 bars for a while that just narrowed up the cockpit that little bit more. It is really funny to see the weight of all that stuff though. 185 grams for those bars with barends and I did everything on that bike.
@Chris97a: LOL, yea that too. My first MTB was a 1985 Schwinn Cimarron. I was working in a LBS at the time and one of the first things we did put wider & lower moto style bars on them. The stem was sort of a cross between a regular gooseneck stem and the old Tuf-Neck BMX stem. I don't remember just how long it was. Then wider & more aggressive tires and a bash guard that strapped to the down tube and both chain stays. The thing looked like a skid plate off a Baja Truck. No bar ends but toe clips with nylon instead of leather straps set up loose enough to get out quick..... and then there where those wonderful cantilever brakes and 3x drive, etc.. [Sarc]. I wish I could locate that bike.
Anyway, the video reminded me of fully rigid riding back in the 80's when MTB'ing was just starting to come into it's own. I guess the best thing to come out of that type of riding was shown in the video too, you learned to make very good line choices and you couldn't just plow though the gnar relying on your suspension to carry the day.
Yesterday I was doing some Black Enduro trails on my Downcountry Blur and I was feeling like superman but this guy is KARAZYYY. And is it just me? Or isn´t he sounding like the Jocker lately??? He just cant stop laughing!!! Hahahaha Yoann you are the Best!!!
What I learned is that if Yoann is injured, off the bike for six months, then put on a rigid city bike, he's basically at the same skill level as me under the best conditions (healthy, well-practiced, on a long-travel trail bike): i.e., has to scope out the easiest lines on Squamish single-blacks. Humbling.
Yoann's stoke is so contagious..and the dude has skills & smiles for miles. He may rap on & on about stuff but he backs it all up with awesome bike handling.
Coool !!!!! Yoann is amazing!!!! So much fun!! Man that brings back memories of 87,88 on an old Ritchey Ascent hardtail with Tange Prestige fork,,, riding with bro's Shane "Buddy Quasar" Spence and former Canadian Motocross #1 rider Larry MacKenzie with Kelly Small leading on Severed Dick trail at Mount Seymour North Vancouver in the winter.
I started watching this last night and 3 minutes into the vid was like: “Aah I’ll watch the rest tomorrow....” Now I read this article on Pinkbike... Hahaha!!
It is great to have Yoann back. Now Commencal...he's been off injured and then you put him on that. Why don't you rather say "We don't want you back". He could get hurt all over again (even though he is an excellent rider) due to riding a bike where it is not meant to be ridden. Equipment failure could take place and then Yoann will be off injured again and we don't get to see "Into the gnar". Look after our rider with the proper equipment. There are plenty of Darwin award candidates that would be willing to ride the city bike on the trails.
Commencal never pushed me to do anything stupid, same as other brands, they all know we push hard enough to put more pressure on us. I started the ride by some pretty mellow stuff and the bike felt super reliable, no signs of something that could fail. It was then my own choice to do this line as my confidence level was just enough when I got to the top of it. I have a brand new meta 29 that I'll ride in the next video, don't worry my man, I'm so pumped to be riding and I've missed it so much that I'm not ready to pass the limit again anytime soon haha.
#YOBAR! Magnifique!

Welcome back, Yoann!
It is not crazy if you know can ride on any bike!
Not sure I could ride that on any bike though?
Now I read this article on Pinkbike... Hahaha!!
Welcome back, Yoann
