haha its called hatching, in architectural drawings its a way to darken certain parts of a drawing. a very tedious way to darken but it always turns out nice.

Everyone should own a stick-lead drafting pencil (a real German Staedler)... I take one with me everywhere and I think I own 10 or more hahahahaha.
